Abstract

This research traces the development of fundamentalist (usuli) connotations among the most prominent Shafi'i imams, showing their contribution to the development of meanings and tracing the stages of this development across generations of Shafi'i scholarship. The study demonstrates how Shafi'i jurists expanded and refined the conceptual vocabulary of Islamic jurisprudential principles.
